One day brothers Coby and Alex were drawing treasure maps at home. All of a sudden Alex spilled a glass of water on Coby’s map and Coby became very angry. His face scrunched up and his fists clenched and he started shouting at Alex. Hearing the noise, the brothers’ mum came in and noticed how angry Coby was feeling, she suggested he take a walk to settle down. Which he did.
Nearby Coby’s home was a long and winding path. Coby walked angrily, his mind was full of angry thoughts and very soon he realised he had walked further from home than ever before. He turned to see his house in the distance, and when he turned back he noticed a peacock sitting beneath a nearby tree. Coby was curious, he walked up to the peacock. Its eyes were closed. Coby spoke to the peacock, “What are you doing?” He asked, interested. The peacock opened its eyes. “I’ve been walking in the feeling forest!” It said. "The feeling forest?” asked Coby, confused. “That’s right!” said the peacock, “the feeling forest is just a little further along the path. A little further and you are bound to find it. Oh, and when you do, you will find mixies in the trees!”
By the way, mixies are small but powerful things that live in trees. They come in all different shapes and colours and all different feelings too. For example there is a happy mixie, sad mixie, scared mixie… in fact there is a mixie for every feeling you can imagine. And when they land on you, you feel just the same as they do!
Back to the story, Coby walked toward the feeling forest. At its edge he took three deep breaths, then walked in. After a few steps he felt a tingle on his neck. His fists clenched and his face scrunched up. His mind filled with angry thoughts. But after a while the tingle went away and Coby’s face and fists returned to normal. “I wonder if that was an angry mixie on my neck?!” He thought. A few steps later Coby tripped on a tree root and fell to the ground. He scraped his knee, which was bleeding and very painful. Coby began to cry. He looked at his knee and he could feel a sharp pain where the scare was. But after a while his tears dried up and the pain went away. “I wonder if that was a hurt mixie?!” Thought Coby. He wasn’t sure, so he decided to return to ask the peacock.
But when he arrived back at the tree all he found was a note pinned to the tree with a peacock feather. Coby read the note aloud. This is what it said.
Many a mixie will land on your shoulder But not one mixie will stay. Angry or scared, happy or hurt, All mixies must pass away. You don’t have to hide them Or tell them to leave, Its not up to you, you see. Just breathe and be patient For after a while Mixies return to their trees.
Coby put the note in his pocket and walked home. When he arrived Alex was still sitting by the ruined map. When Alex saw Coby he felt scared, thinking that maybe Coby was still angry at him. Coby noticed how Alex was feeling and walked up to him, then he took out the note and read it aloud.
Many a mixie will land on your shoulder But not one mixie will stay. Angry or scared, happy or hurt, All mixies must pass away. You don’t have to hide them Or tell them to leave, Its not up to you, you see. Just breathe and be patient For after a while Mixies return to their trees.
